Crochet Lace Summer Top

Crochet Lace Summer Top

I use this all the time. It’s one of my closet staples. It’s the definition of everyday wear that’s comfortable and pretty too. If the stitch pattern that’s worked for the Body seems intimidating, don’t worry, there’s a video tutorial to help.

I wore this once into town and here I am walking along when a gentleman approaches saying that he loves the top and if I could “knit” it for him as a gift to his wife. I didn’t bother explaining that knitting and crocheting are two totally different crafts as some people do find it difficult getting the pronunciation of “crocheting” right and believe it or not think that this was what their grannies did! If only they knew how satisfying the craft is and how modernized it has become. Needless to say, I was flattered!

Pattern Notes

  • The Crochet Lace Summer Top pattern is for sizes XS, S, M, L, XL (sizes in order as stated/ in parentheses) It’s best to highlight the size you are making to avoid confusion.
  • This pattern makes use of US crochet terminology.
  • Measurements are in inches and centimetres.
  • 2dc-ch1-2dc means all into one st
  • Lace stitch pattern is in multiples of 11
  • This pattern makes use of 2 skeins/ balls of yarn/ wool at a time (double strand)
  • dc-ch1-dc means all into one st
  • tc-ch1-tc means all into one st
  • Increase = work 2 st’s into one st
  • Multiples of 11 + 5 means stitch count in multiples of 11 with 5 st’s extra/ remaining.
  • tc7 + ch1(6) means tc, ch1, tc, ch1, tc, ch1, tc, ch1, tc, ch1, tc, ch1, tc
  • dc-ch3-P-dc means all into one st, also, the ch3 forms part of the picot (P)
  • Picot – ch3, insert hook into two loops at the bottom ch3 – into the dc (top two loops) that was worked to go through all loops on the hook
  • Increase Rounds – Lace pattern – increases are worked into the lace stitch pattern on either side of the Body – increases can only be worked into a R6 repeat – after the dc7 into the ch3 sp (above the picot from the previous Round), ch3, sc into the 1st ch5 sp, ch3, dc7 into the 2nd ch5 sp, ch3, sc into the 3rd ch5 sp, continue with the pattern working the dc7 into the ch3 sp above the picot and so on (I worked an increase on either side of the body of the Top only for R6) (work increases as need be for a bigger flare on the Top)
