I have tons of leftover yarn in my stash and every time I open up that cupboard housing all my yarn stock, I feel overwhelmed with the leftovers. I used leftover yarn for this project. It’s small enough for those leftovers and somehow, I think that the idea behind this project was to sort of lessen my leftovers, only, now that it’s done, it hasn’t really made the heap any smaller… oh well… Hey! it’s okay I got to crochet 😉
Pattern Notes
- Pattern is worked using body measurements according to your size and required fit
- US crochet terminology
- Measurements in inches and centimetres
- The Neck Warmer may be worked with or without the hoodie
- ch2 counts as a stitch – double crochet
- ch1 does not count as a stitch
- For the decrease Round of the Hoodie à single crochet decrease (reduce) = insert hook into 1st st, pull up a loop, insert hook into 2nd st, pull up a loop, yo, go through 3 loops on the hook
- Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc) = yo, insert hook into post of stitch (going from the front of the post), pull up a loop, yo, go through 2 loops on the hook, yo, go through 2 loops on the hook

Neck Warmer
ch20
R1
Into the 4th ch from the hook – dc, dc 2, hdc 6, sc 8 (18 st’s)
R2 (blo)
ch1, turn, sc into same st as ch1, sc 7, hdc 6, dc 4 (18 st’s)
R3 (blo)
ch2, turn, dc 3, hdc 6, sc 8 (18 st’s)
Repeat R2 and 3 until the sc part of the neck warmer fits around the head when stretched
Slip st to join ends
Fasten off, cut off excess yarn, weave in ends
Hoodie
- Find the centre front of the neck warmer (the CF will be opposite to CB (joining seam)) mark the centre st with a SM along the sunken area as in image below.
- Count 8 st’s from top along raised area next to CF and attach yarn – see image below
- Note – work all st’s for R1 into the raised area (ridges) making certain to work into the 8th st
R1
ch1, sc, *ch1, sc*
Repeat from *to* around neck warmer to ridge at CF on the opposite side – ending with a sc
R2
turn, dc into ch1, dc all st’s and all ch1’s ending with a dc into the last ch1
R3
ch2, turn, dc all st’s – work an increase into every 3rd st
R4
ch2, turn dc all st’s
Repeat R4 until the length of the hoodie portion from R1 measures from the base of the neck to the crown of the head – continue to the decrease Round
Decrease Round
Find the centre of the hoodie by folding it in half. Mark off the centre st with a SM.
ch2, turn, dc to 2 st’s before the st marked with a SM, reduce the 2st’s by working 1sc into both st’s (see pattern notes), work 1sc into the st marked with the SM (replace SM), reduce the next 2st’s by working 1sc into both st’s (see pattern notes), dc to end
Repeat the decrease Round 4 more times for child sizes and 5 to 7 more times for adult sizes continue to decrease with sc’s.
Secure yarn, cut off yarn – leaving a long tail to stitch up the top end of the hoodie.
Close up the top end of the hoodie by sewing the two ends together.
Cut off the excess yarn, weave in the ends.
Ribbing around the hoodie
Attach yarn to the hoodie – at the point where the hood and the neck warmer meet on one side.
R1
ch2, dc all around the front of the hoodie all the way to the opposite end
Note: there are no st’s to work into – keep your st’s evenly spaced
R2
ch2, turn, *fpdc, fpdc, bpdc, bpdc*
Repeat from *to* to end
Fasten off, cut off excess yarn, leaving a long enough tail to seam down the ribbing edges to the neck warmer
Weave in all ends to complete
